The 19th of April 2009 marked the 45th year of Ford's Mustang. To celebrate, Auckland Mustang Owners club put together a run from their club house in Mt Wellington all the way to Ardmore Airfield, where there was a P-51 Mustang plane waiting for them to have a photoshoot with. Well done to the Mustang club for their amazing cars and turn out.

The day started very well with not a cloud in the sky. The D1 Rookies were the first to take to Waikaraka Park's pit area, which was shaped into a small oval. Mid afternoon the top 16 drivers took to the track to battle it out for that number 1 spot. In the end, Mad Mike walked away victorious after beating Fanga Dan in the final. Mad Mike now leads the championship heading into round 3 at Pukekohe on the 1st and 2nd of May.

After 3 months of organizing, Andre Stanway along with Taranaki Recreational Motorsport Association and Ross Honner from Dyno Tune put on the Naki Skidz event at New Plymouth Speedway. The day was a huge success with 1200 odd people through the gate. The fee was 5 dollars whether you were skidding or not! All the funds will go back into making the pad bigger for future drifting events.

The long awaited final of the 2008 New Zealand Drift Series came to a head at Pukehohe. The day turned out to be a action packed day, with 3 cars getting written off. After all the drama, the round went to Kyle Jackways with Cole Armstrong coming second in only his second drifting event. Steve Sole wasn't quite able to take the championship win from Carl Ruiterman, losing by only 6 points after his 3rd palce finish.

But now its time to clear the score boards and prepare for 2009!
